Learning to Drive Manual - 3 Months In
I'm three months into my manual lessons and I think I'm just starting to get the hang of it.
I've been driving in the UK for 6 years but now that the hubz is working nearby, he takes the car. This has left me, as my cousins used to say - "with my pata-mobile". Which means "foot-mobile". Which means, "girl, you walking".
It's been rough. Okay, not really, but it definitely stinks. And it definitely makes me feel like my wings have been clipped. Fortunately our home isn't very far from shops and cafes. THANK HEAVENS!
So, manual lessons.
The only person I know who can drive "a stick" (as it's called in Texas) is my dad. That's it. My dad. This is, of course, before I moved to the UK where it's pretty common to drive manual. But that was it! Just my pops. Which pretty much makes him one of the coolest persons I'm related to.

Right, right. The clutch. Grr. That darn clutch. So in an automatic car you don't have to worry about a clutch- at all! Its purpose is to change the gears, and in an automatic you don't have to change the gears! It does it aaaaall for you. Imagine that. But the clutch is fussy. That girl is high maintenance. I've spent a lot of time getting to know her. In fact, I've spent whole lessons just working on the clutch!
Why is the clutch so fussy?
Excellent question. The biting point. Which sounded sexy at first, but now I'm just like "Urggghhh." Because you use the clutch to find the biting point and the biting point needs to be kept very still so you can use your gas pedal to help motivate the clutch/biting point to move. See! Fussy. But also kind of fun. I'm laughing now because I'm actually quite impressed with myself.
